BVA at the 2022 Festival of Ideas

Josh Jording helps with immobilization

On Saturday, March 5, BVA returned to the Brighton Central School District’s Festival of Ideas, a fun learning event for Brighton students in grades 3-8.

BVA Chief Jevon Tomaschko (EMT-P), Deputy Chief-Training Josh Jording (EMT-P), and BVA President Dennis Mietz (EMT) conducted hands-on sessions  to show students basic first aid skills, such as bandaging a wound and splinting a broken arm. Paramedics Tomaschko & Jording demonstrated and explained equipment that they commonly use on ambulance calls, such as a laryngoscope to aid in intubation and a Lifepak 15 monitor/defibrillator. EMT Mietz spoke about BVA as an organization, including coverage area, call volume, and the differences between EMT and Paramedic skills. BVA member Michael Pollock took photos.

BVA participated in three 50-minute workshops which gave Brighton students an opportunity to ask questions and learn about the emergency care provided by EMTs and Paramedics. We enjoyed interacting with potential future EMTs!
